Safimod's 2019 Power Rankings - Week 6 Edition

Published: Monday, Jul 22nd 2019, 7:07am

By: Stephen Safinuk (@Safimod)

1 – Winnipeg Blue Bombers (5-0) (LW: 1)

2 – Hamilton Tiger-cats (4-1) (LW: 2)

3 – Montreal Alouettes (3-2) (LW: 5)

4 – Calgary Stampeders (3-2) (LW: 4)

5 – Edmonton Eskimos (3-2) (LW: 3)

6 – Saskatchewan Roughriders (2-3) (LW: 7)

7 – Ottawa REDBLACKS (2-3) (LW: 6)

8 – BC Lions (1-5) (LE: 8)

9 – Toronto Argonauts (0-5) (LE: 9)

Ok folks – this is not a drill. The Montreal Alouettes are actually in the top half of my power rankings. On purpose. And not for comedic reasons, but because they actually belong their right now. I find it funny that the Montreal Alouettes are on their first 3 game winning streak since their 4-game winning streak to close out 2017. Who was the QB during that winning streak? Vernon Adams Jr. That’s right – Vernon Adams Jr is 7-1 in his last 8 starts in Montreal. Meanwhile, the Alouettes are 5-14 in games not started by him.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers dispatched of the pretenders in Ottawa, 31-1. Here’s the question. Would you rather get shutout, or score only a single rouge? Which is more embarrassing? I hate to admit it, but the Winnipeg Blue Bombers look like they most well-rounded team in the CFL. Thankfully, they have 5 months to figure out how to mess it up.

I don’t know what to think about the Calgary Stampeders right now. I mean, sure – they won. But they needed 6 turnovers from a god-awful Toronto Argos team to do it. Their wins have come vs Toronto, BC and Saskatchewan (teams ranked 6/8/9 on my rankings) while their losses have come to Hamilton (2) and Ottawa. I just don’t know where to put these guys. In the end, they still have a winning record, so I guess they can sit in the top half of the rankings.

Edmonton lost to the Montreal Alouettes on Saturday night, and Trevor Harris’ streak of not throwing interceptions has come to an end. It was bound to happen after all the talk about the streak this week. It’s like talking about a no hitter or shutout.

The Riders dispatched of the BC Lions as well on Saturday night in what was a must win game for both teams. The Riders can vault themselves back in to the Western Division playoff discussion with a win on Saturday in BC, while the Lions need a win to keep their season alive. Yes, they will only be 1-6 if they lose, and lord knows they can still come back from that. But they will be 1-6 and have lost the season series to 2 teams they will be competing for a playoff spot with.
