Abandon Ship – Argos Who Should Trade Double Blue for Green and White

As soon as the Saskatchewan Roughriders hired Corey Mace as the team’s new head coach, I started thinking… who else could Mace and General Manager Jeremy O’Day pry away from the Toronto Argonauts??
The Argos finished last year with a record tying 16-2 record and if you have a chance to get a piece of that action, you get in on it! Of course, the Riders will have to wait until free agency opens in February to be able to take away some talent from Toronto, but anytime a coach switches teams and becomes the guy in charge, there’s ALWAYS a handful of players that want to follow him.
So who are the ones that the Riders should be looking at?
First, I’m going to say stud running back A.J. Ouellette. He’s one of my top 2 favourite players in the CFL, and the guy can flat out play. A.J. COME OVER TO SASKATCHEWAN!! I’ll be the first to get your jersey!
Now, on we go to the defensive side of the ball. On the D-Line, there are questions about whether or not the Riders will bring back Micah Johnson, Anthony Lanier II and Pete Robertson. If one of, or two of them aren’t re-signed, why not bring in Shawn Oakman? The guy is a monster at 6’9” and has been a model of consistency in his 3 year CFL career, getting 6 sacks from the DT spot in each of those years. Potentially pairing him with Johnson would definitely give the Riders an advantage in the trenches.
More questions in the linebacking group for the Riders with SAM LB C.J. Reavis and MLB Larry Dean both potential free agents. Adarius Pickett is arguably the best SAM LB in the CFL and Wynton McManis has really turned into a very good player in this league. Toronto will definitely want them back, but if they really want to continue on with Coach Mace, they’d look excellent in green and white!
And in the defensive backfield, the Riders said goodbye to Nic Marshall and need to replace him and possibly one other starting position. Jamal Peters would be an upgrade over Marshall at the open corner spot and how about Robertson Daniel as well? Daniel had 5 interceptions last year and missed a good chunk of the year with an injury… he DID follow Mace from Calgary to Toronto in 2021. Maybe he follows him again?
Maybe I’m getting too far ahead of myself, since a lot can happen in the just under 2 months left before free agency begins, but come one, we’re Rider fans… we’re ALWAYS looking ahead to the future here! No doubt, Coach Mace will be bringing some of his players over from Toronto, I’m just excited to see who it will be.
