Alex’s CFL Tuesday Takes

Watch out for the tEEm over there? – The Edmonton Elks have won back to back games and after FINALLY ending their record 22 game home losing streak, they are all of a sudden back in the playoff race! We’ve seen a Chris Jones team get hot at the end of a season in year 2 of a rebuild before and that’s what appears to be happening now. Tre Ford has given the team some life and if they can win against the Stampeders on Labour Day, they’ll have a legitimate shot at pushing for the postseason in a crossover spot in the East… though looking at their schedule, the worst team they play after their back-to-backs against Calgary is the Riders. It won’t be easy for the Elks, that’s for sure.

No Lion, BC has some issues – What was the best team in the league from earlier this year has now fallen back to the third best team. I have no doubt they’ll get back on track, but it was noted from Jeff Hamilton of the Winnipeg Free Press that there are cracks in the culture in BC when you see guys like Alex Hollins throwing temper tantrums on the sideline during their loss at home to Hamilton. It’s a great point… we know how great things are when you are winning, but how do you face adversity? They have some great leaders over in BC with Rick Campbell and Vernon Adams Jr., so I don’t think things will fall off a cliff here. But composure is going to be key for Lions going forward.

It happened, it finally happened – We’ve been waiting for twenty years for it to happen, but the drop off for the Calgary Stampeders is here! Okay, it’s been here for a few weeks, but I’m finally believing it! Now admittedly, a lot of my disdain for the Stamps runs through my jealousy. We’d all love to see our teams have the success that the Stamps have had over the last 20 years. Constantly having home playoff games, winning multiple Grey Cups, going from Hall of Fame QB to Hall of Fame QB (Henry Burris to Bo Levi Mitchell)… THAT is what I want to see from my team. Forgive me if I enjoy this season where the Stamps are currently 3-8 a bit too much, because I don’t think it will last too long.
