Alex’s CFL Tuesday Takes

Cui Will Miss You, Victor – TSN’s Farhan Lalji broke the news last night that the Edmonton Elks and team President Victor Cui have agreed to part ways. This is yet another blow to an organization that is reeling and needs all the help they can get to get their fan base back to where it once was. I know that some other teams didn’t like some of his initiatives and the things he wanted to do, but the league is going to be worse off without him. He brought in fresh ideas and new promotions to Edmonton that all teams around the CFL should have been paying attention to. I wonder what we don’t know about this… he wasn’t the one that hired the current regime in Edmonton… did that have anything to do with it? Did he want to keep the guy in charge and the Board of Directors didn’t, so something had to give?

Nothing is (Mason) Fine in Riderville – At least not this week. Fans were beyond angry at Craig Dickenson after the Riders WON against Ottawa… how do you think they feel now after getting blown out by Montreal? And with the word that (new) QB1 Mason Fine is out 2-3 weeks with a hamstring injury, we’ll get a look at Jake Dolegala for a bit. Hopefully for Rider Nation, he isn’t as awful against BC as he was against Montreal. But if he turns in a bad performance and the Riders go into the bye week with two bad losses… something will need to change.

Injuries to QBs Stop Please! – After seeing Winnipeg’s Zach Collaros get injured against Edmonton, I have to say enough is enough with all these quarterbacks getting hurt! Yes, Dru Brown came in and played well. And yes, you don’t find new stars in the league without them getting a chance usually do to injury, but the league NEEDS their stars healthy! We’ve seen more than 20… MORE THAN TWENTY(!) quarterbacks take snaps this year already and in a nine team league, that’s absolutely ridiculous. Wrap them in bubble wrap, I don’t care, we just have to protect these guys for the good of the game!

Kelly Continues to Serve up Crow – So, Alex… how’s that crow taste? Chad Kelly is playing unbelievable this season! What Ryan Dinwiddie and company have done with him is truly awesome and I’m fully onboard now. Kelly is GREAT for the CFL and he’s absolutely in the discussion for MOP. I was wrong about him and I couldn’t be happier about that. He’s starting to say all the right things now during interviews and when you combine that with his on field play, it’s smooth sailing (pun intended) for the first place Argos.
