Happy first full day of Spring and Happy CFL Week! The fun, fan friendly week kicks off tonight in Winnipeg when we learn who will be unveiled for the 2018 Canadian Football Hall of Fame. 2017 was a stacked class with Anthony Calvillo, Geroy Simon, Mike O’Shea and Kelvin Anderson as players and Stan Schwartz and Brian Towriss as Builders. Not sure the league can ever top that group, but I look forward to seeing who gets announced for 2018!
On Monday the Riders signed 2 more National players. Receiver Brett Blaszko and Kicker Brett Lauther, both of who were with the Riders last year. Lauther makes sense as competition and a backup to Tyler Crapigna after Quinn Van Gylswyk signed with the Montreal Alouettes. Blaszko has the size that Chris Jones loves at 6’4 and will fight for a spot behind Rob Bagg and Devon Bailey.
Late last week Defensive Lineman Eddie Steele re-signed for another year here in Saskatchewan. What a great depth move. We’ve said it many times before, but I can’t state enough just how good this Defensive Line is going to be. Willie Jefferson, Charleston Hughes, Tobi Antigha, Nick James, Zack Evans and Eddie Steele. It’s just not fair. I’d say I feel bad for opposing QBs, but that would be a lie. This is a scary line and I’m just so giddy about them!
Anthony Calvillo officially arrives in Toronto as QB Coach for the Argos. Marc Trestman, Calvillo, Ricky Ray all together with a young James Franklin to watch and learn from? Easily the greatest collaboration of QBs and QB gurus assembled on one team.
The latest episode of the Piffles Podcast is out! It is episode 71 and to honour that number, I had a chat with the greatest #71 in Rider history, Mr. Bobby Jurasin and I asked him YOUR questions.
