Time to Panic in Riderville
It may have only been preseason, but yikes. The Riders were outscored 74-21 in those 2 games and they haven’t won a preseason game since 2014 when they beat Ottawa (who went 2-16 that season). While preseason wins don’t matter, having one definitely boosts confidence. The team looked BAD on Friday against Calgary. If this is remotely close to the team we see on the field this week and further into the season, it’s going to be a long year. Those picking the Riders to win the West may want to rethink their preseason picks (myself included).
Without an O-Line, it won’t matter who the QBs and WRs are. I have no idea what Chris Jones is doing with his O-Line, but it doesn’t look good and it has no depth. It’s time to worry now.
They All Start as No-Namers
Sure, we as fans don’t like it when our favourite players get cut, especially when “the new guys haven’t proved anything yet”… yes, I saw someone say that (insert roll eyes emoji here), but remember, all players start off by being just a name. Yeah, Rob Bagg, Chad Owens and Bakari Grant all got cut (Bakari was the only one that shocked me), but they also got their breaks at the expense of someone else and that’s what we are seeing now with Devon Bailey, Jordan Williams-Lambert and Shaq Evans. You can still be upset about losing your fave player, but to those hoping their team loses, again, something I’ve seen plenty of people saying… get lost.
4-6 (Weeks) for the W
I hate seeing players get hurt, so I’m glad that Matt Nichols’ injury isn’t a season ending one. I am glad however that the Bombers may start behind the 8-ball in the West. No one felt sorry when Darian Durant got hurt in 2014 and 2015 and the Riders tanked, so I’m not going to feel sorry if Winnipeg does too.
Johnny Starter
He looked good again and by week 5 Johnny Manziel WILL start for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He’s looking more and more confident and can make all the throws. The leash on Jeremiah Masoli is going to be very short. He better not throw a few interceptions in the first game…
