Do you believe in miracles? Or hell freezing over? Well, apparently there’s a possibility it could happen. One of the most hated players in Saskatchewan over the last few decades might just be joining the green and white! Sportsnet’s Arash Madani said on a local sports show here in Saskatchewan that it wouldn’t surprise him if former Lion/Bomber/Argo Andrew Harris joins the Saskatchewan Roughriders as a part of Corey Mace‘s new coaching staff!
Could you imagine?
Since I really became a big fan of the CFL in the early 2000’s, only one other player has been hated on by Rider Nation more than Andrew Harris… and it’s the great Henry Burris. Jon Cornish was pretty close, but Rider fans can not STAND Harris. A lot of it has to do with the fact he was an unbelievably great talent that was on the Bombers for a long time and had some monster games against the Roughriders, but a lot of it also has to do with his suspension for PEDs. Harris said he was going to prove that everything he took was legit, but failed to ever do so. I personally don’t really care either way, but I know a ton of fans still do to this day.
Harris joining Mace makes sense though. His days as a player are done, but the guy is Canadian Football royalty. He’s a first ballot Hall of Famer and is one of the top Canadians we’ve ever seen play this game… and among the all time greats overall. To bring in a guy that knows the game and excelled at it, would be a good move for Corey Mace. It’s not often you get a chance to bring in a four time Grey Cup Champion to your team. And you’d have to think that they have a great relationship from their time in Toronto over the past few years. As much as Rider Nation might hate it, I think it would be a good thing for the team.
IF the move actually happens and Harris joins the Riders coaching staff, I think I know where Greg is starting us off on next week’s Festivus episode of The Piffles Podcast!
