There has been some talk, questioning why the answers for the media poll by the CFL were kept anonymous. We have no issues backing up our responses, so we have decided to share our answers with you.
Before we do that, we want to thank the CFL for allowing us at the Piffles Podcast to take part in the CFL Media Poll. The level of respect that the league office has for unconventional media/fan podcasts is top notch, and greatly appreciated.
Without further ado, here are the responses given by Piffles Podcast.
Who will win the West: The Edmonton Eskimos – With Calgary due to take a step back, Edmonton has the talent and team to take the West.
Who will win the East: The Toronto Argonauts – In a weak East, it will be hard to knock off the defending Grey Cup Champions, especially with an offseason of Popp and Trestman
Who will win the Grey Cup: The Saskatchewan Roughriders – The Riders will come in 2nd or 3rd in the West, but peak at the right time.
Who will win the Most Outstanding Player in 2018: Mike Reilly – Reilly has the offence around him to get him to the league’s first repeat MOP winner since Anthony Calvillo did it almost a decade ago.
Which Player is most likely to have a breakout season in 2018? James Wilder Jr – A full season in Marc Trestman’s system will solidify Wilder Jr as a star in this league.
Which team made the best overall moves this off-season? Saskatchewan – solidifying their defensive line and adding a true #1 QB will go a long way to moving them up the Western Division standings.
Which one player acquisition will make the biggest impact? Zach Collaros – With the receiving talent around him and a revamped offensive line, he could be in the MOP discussion.
Who will lead the league in receiving yards? Naaman Roosevelt – The forgotten president is the most consistent receiver on the Riders, and will make the most of the defenses focus on Duron Carter.
Who will lead the league in rushing yards? Andrew Harris
If you were starting a franchise today and could sign any player in the CFL, who would your first selection be and why? Mike Reilly – Reilly has a shot to be a back to back Most Outstanding Player and his leadership shows on and off the field.
Who will win Most Outstanding Canadian? Andrew Harris
Who will win Most Outstanding Defensive Player? Willie Jefferson – Jefferson didn’t have Charleston Hughes on the other side and he still basically lived in the offensive backfield. This season will only be better.
Who will be the comeback player of the year in 2018? Zach Collaros – Collaros could benefit greatly from a fresh start and with the complement of players assembled around him he could get back into the MOP discussion.
Which 2017 CFL Draft pick will have the most impact this season? Nate Behar – Behar has all the makings to be a star in the CFL. He will get plenty of opportunity to show it this year.
Which non-playoff team a season ago will have the most wins in 2018? Hamilton – Hamilton was a team on the rise under June Jones at the end of last season, and in a weak East they should improve their record.
Who is the most under-rated player in the CFL? Caleb Holley – on any other team, Caleb Holley would be a 1000 yard receiver.
Which CFL team has the biggest home-field advantage? Saskatchewan – Anyone who says anything else is either lying or wrong.
Which current head coach would you want coaching your team? Marc Trestman – Trestman’s football IQ is second to none. Also, his calm demeanor filters through the team; just look at the Eastern Final versus the Riders. There was no panic and the team did what it had to.
Which up and coming coach would you hire as a first time head coach? Orlando Steinhauer – Steinhauer is way past due to be a head coach in the CFL
Will there be a crossover this season? Yes
