Cody Fajardo Staying in Saskatchewan

Riders GM Jeremy O’Day announced today that QB Cody Fajardo has signed a 2 year extension to remain with the club through 2021. He was set to become a free agent in the offseason after signing a 1 year deal with the Roughriders in February.

Cody’s term as the backup in Saskatchewan lasted exactly 3 plays before former QB Zach Collaros was knocked out of the season opener with a concussion. He exploded on to the seen and cemented himself quickly as the new #1 in Rider Nation.

Fajardo and his Sprinkle of Jesus has helped lead the Saskatchewan Roughriders to a tie for 1st in the West Division with an 11-5 record. His 3873 yards through the air currently sit 2nd in the CFL (behind only Mike Reilly), and his 610 yards on the ground (with 10 touchdowns) put him in 7th in the league.

According to Farhan Lalji, the contract will see Cody Fajardo earn $450K per year over the next 2 seasons. A pretty healthy raise from the 150K he was scheduled to earn in 2019.

Not only has he been performing well on the field, but he has been a strong contributor off the field as well. Between his work with us on the Cody’s Jesus Sprinkles shirts (more to come soon on the total donation), and his attitude towards whomever broke into his truck on Thanksgiving, you can see why he is a great fit for Rider Nation.

We at Piffles Podcast look forward to seeing Cody Fajardo in Green and White for the foreseeable future.
