The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced the 2024 Plaza of Honour inductees today, and there were a couple of long overdue names on that list. Congratulations to Roy Shivers, Darian Durant and Steve Molnar (Posthumous) on their induction into the plaza.

Steve Molnar

Running back Steve Molnar spend 10 seasons with the Roughriders from 1969-1978 , amassing 3101 rushing/receiving yards and 22 touchdowns. Molnar was also the Roughriders nominee for Most Outstanding Canadian in both 1976 and 1977. He was also a second-generation Roughrider, as his father Steve Sr played for the team in 1943.

Darian Durant

When they have the induction ceremony later this year, it will be done in the house that Darian built. The former North Carolina Tar Heel spent 11 years in Green and White, including 8 as the starting quarterback. The Roughriders enjoyed their most successful era since the Reed/Lancaster era with Durant under center, culminating in multiple home playoff games, 3 Grey Cup appearances and a Grey Cup victory (his second with the club, having been on the roster in 2007 as well).

Roy Shivers

Roy Shivers was the general manager from 1999 through 2006. He turned a horrible 3 win football team (in 1999) into a legitimate contender by 2002, leading to multiple Western Final appearances and forming the building blocks for our first Grey Cup in almost 20 years in 2007. In 2022, Roy Shivers was inducted into the CFL Hall of Fame as a builder for his time spent in Saskatchewan, Birmingham and BC.

Shivers was responsible for one of the biggest deals in Roughrider history when he acquired both Darian Durant and Kerry Joseph in the same deal ahead of the Ottawa Renegades dispersal draft.
