Game Day – Legends Night & Remembering George Reed
Published: Saturday, Oct 7th 2023, 3:10pm
Tonight, Saskatchewan remembers an icon as Mosaic Stadium is host to Legends Night as the Roughriders host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.
Off the field, it has been a very hard week as we continue to mourn the passing of the greatest Rider of all time, Mr. George Reed. But tonight, we celebrate him, fittingly at a game dubbed Legends Night. George, Rider Nation misses you already and I know that the Rider Pride will be flowing tonight in your honour. Rest easy, icon, hero, friend.
On the field, Craig Dickenson has made some changes to the roster, including seemingly demoting Micah Teitz & Tevin Jones. A shakeup was definitely needed and it looks like we may have found where it will be. Anthony Lanier II is FINALLY moved back to defensive tackle (we’ve been calling for that ALL season long) and will hopefully provide a huge interior push against Hamilton’s new (old) #1 QB, the returning Bo Levi Mitchell. We also get our first look at William Poole III getting the start at cornerback. The Riders boast the league’s worst defense, so plenty of changes have been made to try and change their luck.
A win against Hamilton goes a long way in securing the final playoff spot. It would eliminate the crossover possibility of the Ottawa Redblacks and it would set up a win and in situation for the Riders next week in Calgary against the Stampeders. It’s not a “must win”, but it’s a must win game tonight.
There will be a lot of emotion at Mosaic Stadium tonight, not only with the pregame ceremony for George Reed, but the Plaza of Honour celebration and a good portion of the 2013 Grey Cup Championship team in attendance. Darian Durant, Kory Sheets and most of the rest of the team will be honoured… and what better way to honour them than with your best game of the year. I have no doubt that we will see that tonight. Go Riders!
