For the 2nd time in 5 days… IT’S GAME DAY!!

On Monday, the Riders beat the Bombers 25-12 and really controlled the entire game. It was a treat to see! While I don’t expect the Riders to control this game entirely too, I do expect another solid outing by the team with a high level of energy.

This afternoon marks the last game where new recruits can make an impression on the new coaching staff in hopes of a roster spot. A few players definitely made some impressions on Monday and at the very least, Coach Corey Mace and General Manager Jeremy O’Day should have some pretty tough decisions to make over the next week.

Trevor Harris and his 3 main offensive weapons (WRs Shawn Bane Jr. & Kian Schaffer-Baker and RB A.J. Ouellette) aren’t playing, so this leaves the backup quarterback battle as the main focus on offense. Mason Fine didn’t really get a chance to play in the first preseason game other than handing the ball off a few times and Shea Patterson looked REALLY good against the Bombers. Is the job Patterson’s to lose? We may get our answer this afternoon.

And on defense, there’s still quite a few question marks. How much room is there for American Linebackers on the roster? Zakoby McClain and Diego Fagot both impressed on Monday, but can both make the squad behind starter Jameer Thurman

And the secondary still seems up in the air as to who the starters are going to be, especially with Amari Henderson not playing again. It should be a great fight in the final tune up game here to see who cracks the roster.

Don’t miss out on Episode 270 of The Piffles Podcast, where we look back at the Winnipeg preseason game and look ahead to today’s game against Edmonton.

If you’re looking for a fun way to catch the game and not stream it at home, the Riders are hosting a watch party for the game at Mosaic Stadium with their Rider Rally! If you go, I hope you have a blast! GO RIDERS!
