Hardrick to Bring Nasty Riders Have Been Missing

The first domino of Saskatchewan Roughriders General Manager Jeremy O’Day’s free agent plan is said to be in place. Free Agent Offensive Lineman Jermarcus Hardrick is to sign a 2 year deal with the Riders, giving them their Right Tackle on the O-Line, but maybe more importantly, giving the Riders some nasty.

It’s been 5 years since the Riders have had an O-Line that was extremely physical and can bully people around. No surprise, that was also the last time the team finished in first place in the West Division. Hardrick will bring that bully-like nastiness to an offensive line that is used to getting bullied around and I absolutely love it! The team needs to get back to their 2013 ways, to their 2018/19 ways… time to stop being so damn soft up front. Time to be FEARED!

Hardrick is no stranger to Saskatchewan. He had 8 starts with the team in 2015, but signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2016. Since then, he’s been a multi-time all-star and has won two Grey Cups. Something that the team has clearly put value on this offseason… winning. Hardrick has done a lot of winning lately and I expect that to rub off on the rest of the Riders O-Line.

I do have a bit of concern that the team is getting Hardrick at the end of his career, but let’s face it, nothing the Riders have had in the last few years compares to the productivity we’ve seen from Hardrick. Assuming that “Yoshi” stays at right tackle, we could see the Riders starting O-Line looking like this:

?? – Logan Ferland – Peter Godber – Philip Blake – Jermarcus Hardrick

4 pieces pretty much set in stone. I don’t mind that at all. They’ll just need to hope that one of their recruits can take that left tackle position. If not, maybe we see Blake kick out over there and we see something like:

Blake – Ferland – Godber – Bandy/Fry Hardrick

Either way, the Riders O-Line is getting a significant boost in the area they desperately need it. For that reason, I don’t mind the overspend by O’Day and I’m fully on board with this signing. Welcome back, Yoshi!
