After last season, star Linebacker Jeff Knox Jr. was allowed to leave the Riders to take his chance in the NFL. On January 13th, Knox signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers leaving a void in the Riders LB unit. Today that void was filled as Knox re-signed with Saskatchewan.

The Riders defense has certainly improved over the course of this 2017 season, but the Linebackers haven’t really stood out. They haven’t been terrible by any means, but I think we were all expecting a bit more from Henoc Muamba and Sam Eguavoen. Adding Knox back in here takes that LB to the next level from average to very good. Knox can cover, he can play the run, he will upgrade this overall defense.

Knox starred in an abysmal 2015 season recording 112 tackles, 10 special team tackles and nabbing an interception as well. In 2016 his numbers dipped to 65 tackles but he had 19 special team tackles and had 1 QB sack.

We had a chance to talk to Jeff Knox Jr. not so long after he signed in Tampa Bay in the offseason on the Piffles Podcast. You can catch that interview here: https://soundcloud.com/pifflespod/jeff-knox-jr?in=pifflespod/sets/alumni-interviews

At only 25 years old, Knox has PLENTY of time left in his football career and will do so wearing the green and white, back where he belongs.

Welcome back to Riderville Jeff!
