Marcus Thigpen Suspended
The CFL announced today that International running back Marcus Thigpen has been suspended after testing positive for a banned substance (Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone). As per the CFL Drug Policy, Thigpen will miss the first two games of the season. Any future positive test would result in a nine game ban.
He is the second member of the 2017 Saskatchewan Roughriders to be suspended for a banned substance. Current free agent offensive lineman Bruce Campbell was suspended in January.
Statement from Riders General Manager and Head Coach Chris Jones:
We are disappointed in Marcus and that he has tested positive for a banned substance. We have been in conversation with Marcus and the CFL for clarity and accept the leagues decision and corresponding two-game suspension. Our organization fully supports the CFL/CFLPA policy preventing the use of performance-enhancing drugs.
