Nic Marshall’s Gun Charge Makes Jeremy O’Day’s Job Easy

With news coming out about the arrest of Saskatchewan Roughriders cornerback Nic Marshall on gun charges, I can only think of one thing… Bye Felicia.

Marshall is a pending free agent and over the last couple of seasons has signed 1 year deals to remain with the Riders. Over each of the last few years, I’ve said move on from him. He has great ability and at a time was the best corner in the CFL, despite his huge boom or bust play style.

But now, Riders General Manager Jeremy O’Day has his reason and can move on from him with zero backlash. The team needs a huge culture change after back to back seasons with 6-12 records, both years losing their final seven games. Craig Dickenson was essentially fired and was the first step in the culture change. Either releasing Marshall now or just flat out saying we won’t offer him a contract is the next step.

While I don’t think much comes of the arrest and gun charge (legally), this should end Marshall’s career as a Saskatchewan Roughrider. If I were Jeremy O’Day, I’d address this tomorrow (Monday) and cut ties with Marshall now to show you are serious about changing not only the culture of the team, but how CFL fans view this team.
