Saskatchewan Roughriders Head Coach Corey Mace announced his coaching staff for the 2024 season and I personally LOVE the youthful energy this group will bring. I think there will be some growing pains as there isn’t a ton of coaching experience in the CFL, but long term, this is going to be a massive win for the organization.
On offense, we already had Marc Mueller in as Offensive Coordinator. Joining him will be new O-Line Coach Edwin Harrison (was with Mace in Toronto), Receivers Coach Marquay McDaniel (with Mueller in Calgary) and switching from O-Line coach to Running Backs coach is Anthony Vitale.
Joining the staff on defense will be Joshua Bell as Defensive Backs Coach and Pass Game Coordinator (was with Mace in Toronto and we heard plenty of rumblings of him joining the Riders), Phillip Daniels as D-Line Coach (father of Argos receiver DeVaris Daniels), former stud Linebacker J.C. Sherritt as Linebackers Coach and Run Game Coordinator and Jordan Linnen as a Defensive Assistant (was with the Elks last year).
Special Teams Coordinator Kent Maugeri gets help from Jeff Higgins as an assistant special teams coach (has 20 years of coaching experience).
My big takeaway from this coaching staff is that it is filled with winners. Grey Cup winners. This team NEEDED to bring in guys this year that know what it takes to win and that’s exactly what Head Coach Corey Mace has done. There will be growing pains, for sure, with such a young coaching staff. But the reward definitely outweighs the risk. This is a group that is going to get the very best out of the players and I can’t wait to see them take the field in 2024!
