Riders CFL Free Agency Day 2 Recap

Published: Thursday, Feb 14th 2019, 3:02am
Wednesday turned out to be another interesting day for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, but not for the reasons you may think.
We thought that day 2 of free agency would focus on finding the Riders a receiver or two, but that was not the case. Stars like Derel Walker, Manny Arceneaux and Naaman Roosevelt are all still available on the open market and the Riders have a HUGE hole at receiver. Oh well, maybe day 3 will bring some news.
There was one player signing, Canadian receiver Cory Watson is joining the Riders. He will likely fill the starting wide side receiver spot that is traditionally reserved for a Canadian and this signing became more important when we learned that Jake Harty will miss the 2019 season after having a setback in rehab stemming from his torn ACL from last year.
Speaking of torn ACLs, Jeremy O’Day revealed that running back Tre Mason also has a torn ACL and will miss the 2019 season. I guess signing William Powell WAS a priority for the team… some Rider fans should be taking back some of their comments to O’Day right about now…
On the Quarterback front, the Riders are apparently interested in Travis Lulay and Kevin Glenn. 4th time’s the charm for Kevin Glenn?
As for departures, two players from the defensive side of the ball are heading east to Toronto, as both Tobi Antigha and Cory “Poop” Johnson have joined the Argos.
What will day 3 of CFL Free Agency bring? Well, for his sake, I hope Jeremy O’Day has a receiver signing or two… the fans are getting restless and Zach Collaros needs some help on offense.
We discuss the first couple of days of CFL Free Agency on episode 109 of the Piffles Podcast (brought to you by Dairy Queen on Elphinstone St. and Sask Drive in Regina) and that episode will be out on Thursday, be sure to check it out!
