Riders CFL Free Agency Day 4 Recap

Published: Saturday, Feb 16th 2019, 1:02pm

Jeremy O’Day is really rolling now. More great moves on Friday for the Riders and this team is really starting to take shape.

It all started Friday morning with the announcement of Kicker Brett Lauther signing an extension through 2020! Reports from 3 Down Nation suggest that Lauther was willing to miss the season unless he got a new deal with more money. Well worth it for the best kicker in the CFL.

The Riders then made it official, the President Naaman Roosevelt is back with the green and white for another year. Joining him atop the Riders receiving group is all star Manny Arceneaux from the BC Lions. One of the top receivers available in free agency, O’Day did a great job of bringing a proven big time play maker to the team. Arceneaux is coming off a knee injury that may cause him to miss some time early on, but with the Riders receiving group as thin is it is, this is a huge move.

Only one loss for the team on the day, but we all knew this was coming. Defensive Back Jovon Johnson was named Defensive Backs Coach at Defiance College in Defiance, Ohio. Jovon had mentioned on Facebook that he was looking to get into coaching. Jovon loves giving back to the community and helping kids when he can, so this was a natural fit for him. Good luck Jovon!

O’Day likely isn’t done yet, but that is likely it for big name stars coming to the Riders this season. The team is starting to look pretty good and if our top receivers and QB can stay healthy, we have a legitimate shot at a Grey Cup run in 2019!
