According the CFL’s Transactions page, the Saskatchewan Roughriders and Offensive Lineman Evan Johnson have agreed to a re-structured contract as Training Camps begin.
This happens all the time, usually when players get raises or re-structured bonuses. But after an awful 2022, there’s no way the Riders gave Johnson a raise, is there? One of the most talked about offseason issues for the Riders was the O-Line and Evan Johnson was under heavy scrutiny by myself, the other guys with Piffles Podcast and many Rider fans alike.
My assumption is that he got a base salary decrease, but can make it back up with incentives (becoming an All-Star). The Riders have brought in plenty of competition on the O-Line and no doubt want an upgrade to their Right Guard spot that Johnson has occupied since coming over from Ottawa.
3 Down Nation reported earlier this year that Johnson was to be the 15th highest paid O-Lineman in the CFL, 2nd highest paid on the Riders behind Philip Blake.
