A man of few words, Saskatchewan Roughriders Running Back Tre Mason is just ready to get back to playing football. Mason has been out of pro football since the end of the 2015 NFL season when he was with the (then) St. Louis Rams (now in Los Angeles). He had a few small run ins with police, but is ready to put the past behind him and get back to the grind of pro ball.
“I never really wanted to leave the game of football. I got a passion and I love football.” Mason said after practice on Monday at Mosaic Stadium. “I’m going to come to work everyday and give 110%”
What’s old is new again for Mason as also on the roster for the Riders this year was his Quarterback at Auburn University, Nick Marshall. Marshall made the team as the starting Cornerback taking over the spot that Kacy Rodgers left when he joined the New York Jets of the NFL. Having Marshall with him in Saskatchewan makes things easier for Mason.
“I grind with Nick. Nick is like my brother, you don’t really have to explain that.”
As for one message he wanted to send to Rider fans before the season gets started:
“My name is Tre Mason. Stay tuned.”
Running Back Marcus Thigpen is serving his 2 game suspension now, so Mason gets to show his stuff Friday at Mosaic Stadium in the season opener for the Riders as they take on the Argos. We’ll be tuned in then, Tre.
You can hear the full interview with Tre Mason in the Cypress Hills Destination Area Player Profile on the next episode of the Piffles Podcast, brought to you by Dairy Queen on Elphinstone St. and Sask. Drive on Wednesday. We will talk the big Rider cuts, hear from Ricky Ray of the Toronto Argonauts in the Tall Grass Apparel Engaging With the Enemy and preview the season opener.
