Riders Ready for Season Opener vs Hamilton

Well the regular season is FINALLY here and things start to count for real!

The Riders host Hamilton on Saturday in a game that has me quite intrigued. Obviously, the 2 main questions going into this season were:

  1. Which Cody Fajardo do we get?
  2. How will the O-Line fair this season to HELP Cody out?

With the depth chart out, we have our look at the O-Line… I think with another year together for the interior, the return of Vaughn at left tackle and Na’Ty Rodgers at right tackle, they are miles ahead of where they were last year… but Hamilton has a fantastic D-Line, so I’m definitely going to be paying attention to that battle in the trenches.

The other interesting thing about the Riders depth chart that has me interested is the Canadian Starters. We knew going in who 6 of the 7 would be and the 7th is Nelson Lokombo, who is making his pro debut after missing all of last year with the torn Achilles. I really want this young man to succeed, especially after the injury to start his career, but this is a tall task and gamble for the Riders. It will be interesting to see how it pays off.

Looking at the depth chart… I do have concerns about the depth they have with their Canadians. If a Canadian starter gets hurt, then what? You likely have to go with Mitch Picton at a starting receiver spot. What about on the O-Line? Logan Bandy as the 6th is fine, but he has no experience behind an already questionable line. If he has to go in for an injury… well, we probably won’t see the 2019 MOP nominee Cody Fajardo show up.

Check out Episode 192 of The Piffles Podcast where we look at this upcoming game, how the team took shape and much more from around the CFL.

See you at Mosaic Stadium Saturday evening!
