Riders Sign Ryan Sceviour, Get Great Roster Flexibility

In a classic Friday Afternoon News Dump, the Saskatchewan Roughriders announced they have signed free agent All Star O-Lineman Ryan Sceviour to a one year deal. The former Calgary Stampeder not only brings huge help to an O-Line that needed a massive upgrade over the last few years, he brings with him a huge amount of roster flexibility.

Sceviour played all 18 games at Right Guard last year and we would assume that’s going to be his spot in 2024 with the Riders. I posted earlier today that the Riders had a few question marks on the roster going into Training Camp and that one was the Left Tackle spot. Now, I think they have it covered, thanks to this signing.

Newly signed Jermarcus Hardrick will be the team’s Right Tackle, Sceviour at Right Guard and of course, Peter Godber returning at Center. This leaves Philip Blake and Logan Ferland as the other assumed starters, one of which would go to Left Tackle. Blake was the LT in Toronto when they won the Grey Cup in 2022 (with Coach Corey Mace there at the time) and Ferland played rather well when thrown into the LT spot last year. Blake is the frontrunner right now, giving us a potential starting lineup of:

You HAVE to like that after trotting out what they have over the last couple of years. At the very least, the team has massively upgraded their depth for when injuries occur and have plenty of roster flexibility across the board now because of this signing. GREAT addition to the team, Jeremy O’Day!
