Let the countdown begin! We are now less than one month away from CFL Training Camps opening and getting to see our green and white take the field for the first time under new head coach Corey Mace! Think about that… this time next month, we will have fans in Saskatoon outside watching the Riders. It’s a GLORIOUS time of the year!

The Saskatchewan Roughriders had themselves quite a busy week this past week. Here’s everything that happened in Riderville:

Along with Harvard Media, the Saskatchewan Roughriders announced the new radio voices for their gameday programming on 620 CKRM. In what was the worst kept secret in Saskatchewan media over the last couple of months, broadcaster Dave Thomas was named the new Play by Play voice that will call the games on the radio. Thomas has extensive experience calling football with the Saskatoon Hilltops, U-Sports, the U of S Huskies men’s football team and a ton of work in the SJHL.

And just for fun, Dave will join us this upcoming week on the next episode of The Piffles Podcast!

In addition to the play by play role, we also have a new Pre & Post Game Host for the shows on 620 CKRM… 3 Down Nation’s Justin Dunk. Justin is the best CFL Insider and brings in a wealth of experience of his own to the radio broadcast. Welcome to Rider Nation, Dave and Justin, we look forward to hearing you on the air!

The Riders also made a couple of player signings this week. Running back Kennedy Brooks joins the green and white with a chance to unseat Frankie Hickson as the backup to A.J. Ouellette. And ANOTHER defensive back was brought in as former NFL’er Antoine Brooks Jr. joins what will be a big time battle in the secondary. That defensive back group better BRING IT at Training Camp, because there is some great talent there being brought in and that group should go from a weakness in 2023 to a big strength in 2024.

And as we hit the one month mark until Rookie Camp and regular Training Camp, I listed my Top 5 new CFL players that I’m looking forward to seeing in Saskatoon at Training Camp. It’s going to be an interesting camp with a new coaching staff in place and seeing what they want out of players. Can’t wait!

Check out episode 264 of The Piffles Podcast where we give our tributes to the late Jim Hopson, as well as discuss the latest news around the Riders and the CFL. Download the show now wherever you get your podcasts or you can watch the show on YouTube or SaskTel MaxTV on Demand!
