This week was a great week in Rider Nation! Going into the offseason, the Saskatchewan Roughriders were the only CFL team that were looking for a new head coach. They were able to take their time and do their due diligence and they have their man!
News came out on Wednesday and confirmed on Thursday that General Manager Jeremy O’Day hired Toronto Argonauts Defensive Coordinator Corey Mace to be the team’s 48th head coach.
The Riders got their guy and the more I read about Coach Mace and hear him speak, the more I love this hire. If you have the chance, watch his full introductory press conference. If you aren’t pumped up about what he brings to the table, well, I don’t know what to say. All I know is that I’m excited for the 2024 season and how he shapes this team going forward.
Welcome to Riderville, Coach Mace!
The Riders also continued to sign players this past week as well. Three defensive backs were brought back into the fold, all of which will be in tough for a roster spot. Rodney Clemons is back after playing three games and finishing last season on the practice roster, Cole Coleman comes in after spending some time with the Indianapolis Colts and Mark Fields II will return for his first training camp with the Riders. Fields II signed in October and spent his few weeks here on the practice roster.
Now that the team has their head coach in place, I’m sure we’ll be seeing a few more re-signings this upcoming week.
