Ho hum, another week, another win for your Saskatchewan Roughriders. It’s always an interesting game with these guys this year and this last game was no different. But, I’ve come to expect them to pull it out at the end and they haven’t disappointed!

The start of this CFL season has been a BLAST and us Rider fans have been treated to some pretty great stuff from the team so far! Let’s talk about some of that. Here’s what happened this week in Rider Nation. This is your Riderville Roundup!

Last Sunday, the news on Riders QB Trevor Harris became official. The team placed him on the 6 game injured list and signed QB Eric Barriere (who was with Winnipeg in the preseason). For the second straight year, it’s next man up behind Harris for the foreseeable future and this time, it’s Shea Patterson’s chance to make a name for himself.

Patterson got that opportunity on Thursday evening at Mosaic Stadium against the Toronto Argonauts. It didn’t start out too pretty, but as I wrote, the patience that Patterson and the coaching staff showed in that game to stick with it and trust each other deserves accolades.

While the stats weren’t off the charts, Patterson got it done when it mattered and thanks to the defense and their five takeaways, the Riders remained perfect with a big 30-23 win! 4-0!! I don’t think anyone saw this team starting the season the way they have. What a start to the head coaching career for Corey Mace!

Elsewhere with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, I do want to give a few shoutouts. First, to the Riders social media and content team. The stuff, especially the videos they are putting out are top notch!

My favourite this week was asking players at practice who their favourite Roughrider of all time was. And it was rookie receiver Ajou Ajou who nailed it, picking the guy who drafted him, General Manager Jeremy O’Day! A great, fun piece put out by the Riders!

This past week, we also celebrated Canada Day. And what better way to do that than by watching the greatest regular season game of recent memory, the Canada Day Comeback from July 1st, 2010. The opening game of the season after the 2009 “you know what”. I take you back there with my experience of that day and that game.

As always, don’t miss out on the Piffles Power Rankings, out every Tuesday! Another week and another last place finish for the Bombers. It’s truly been a great start to the season!

And don’t forget to catch the latest episode of The Piffles Podcast where we were joined by 2007 Grey Cup Champion, the CFL on TSN’s Paul LaPolice who gave us a breakdown of the Riders hot start to the season and much more! Plus we talked poor QB’ing and if you can be better than your record says you are… (spoiler, you can’t)

What’s next for the Riders? The Riders get ready for a first place showdown in the West Division with a tough road game on Saturday against the BC Lions. Another tough test for the green and white and a big measuring stick game. Bring it on!
