Happy Sunday, Rider fans! It’s home opener day for your Saskatchewan Roughriders!! The Riders host the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in a rematch of last Sunday’s incredible comeback for your green and white!

Here’s what happened this week in Rider Nation. This is your Riderville Roundup.

Let’s go back to last Sunday, where the Riders erased a double digit deficit in the fourth quarter to stun the Ticats and everyone at Tim Horton’s Field, winning 33-30 on a last second Brett Lauther field goal. It’d be nice if the Riders didn’t put themselves in these holes like they have in both games this season, but they’ve shown resilience and have found a way to start 2-0!

Ahead of this game, Roughriders Linebacker C.J. Avery joined me to discuss the upcoming game, his knack for the clutch interceptions he’s grabbed this year and what the first part of his CFL career has been like. Catch that interview wherever you get your podcasts or watch on Youtube!

Of course, with it being the home opener, I took some time to look back at my personal favourite home openers over the last 20+ years since I’ve been a season ticket holder. There’s always something different about the first game at home and I’m looking forward to seeing something special here against Hamilton.

And I know it’s not in Riderville, but Greg had a good article on 50 Cent playing at BC’s home opener last week. Some fans are saying it was a waste because a good portion of the crowd left before the game started, but we need to look at the positives here… new potential fans DID stay, were exposed to a pretty good CFL game and I bet most of the people who showed up for the concert only bought some merch and concessions. I’d say that’s a pretty big win.

As always, don’t miss out on the Piffles Power Rankings, out every Tuesday!

And don’t forget to catch the latest episode of The Piffles Podcast where we discussed the Riders win last week against Hamilton, looked ahead to this upcoming game and talked a bit about the injuries the Riders have right now.

What’s next for the Riders? After the Riders have their home opener against Hamilton this afternoon, it’s their first bye week of the season.
