It’s March 10… MAR10… Happy Mario (Alford) Day Rider fans! Can’t wait to see more record setting return touchdowns at Mosaic Stadium from our Super Mario this year!

Some great things happened in the Rider Nation world this past week involving some iconic members of the Roughrider family. And it all started on Monday. Let’s recap the week that was here in Riderville.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders made a very classy gesture on Monday, sharing with us fans that they have renamed the Football Operations Auditorium at Mosaic Stadium in the honour of former President & CEO Jim Hopson. There was a small ceremony for Mr. Hopson and his family and the Riders shared a great video of it.

That beautiful stadium would not be there without the efforts and success of Mr. Hopson and it is a classy way to honour Jim so his family can see him enjoy it. GREAT work, Roughriders and very well deserved!

More deserved accolades for a Riders legend as one of the greatest people you could EVER meet, Hall of Famer Don Narcisse was announced as part of the 2024 class for the Texas Southern Sports Hall of Fame. Narco is truly one of the nicest people on the planet and we here in Saskatchewan are beyond lucky to have had him here for decades. Congratulations, Don!! Here’s an interview we did with him years ago on The Piffles Podcast.

Linebacker Larry Dean announced his retirement on Thursday and joined the Riders as a Player Personnel Coordinator. Dean spent the last few years here in Saskatchewan and was still playing at a high level. I love that the organization found a way to keep him around and that he will continue to make Regina his home. He retires as the 25th all time leading tackler in CFL history, playing just 8 seasons.

Another Defensive Back was brought in to Riderville this week. Jamar Johnson joins a crowded group of DBs that will provide quite the fight for a couple of roster spots in Training Camp. This is one of the biggest battles to watch when the team takes the field in May.

And this week I posed the question…. Is it time to rebrand the Riders or at least give them a brand refresh? I think it’s time we see something new and get some more merchandise sales going! With new jerseys apparently on the way, why not do something with your iconic brand?
