I wish I could tell you there was a lot going on in Riderville this past week, but that isn’t the case. All the teams are in Winnipeg for the CFL Combine (you can still stream the individual drills and practice today) and we are officially in Draft SZN. Follow 3 Down Nation for details of the Combine, John Hodge, Ben Grant and J.C. Abbott are doing a great job there at the CFL Combine.

For the Saskatchewan Roughriders, no news to look back on this week. But, what I can tell you is that there should be an announcement in the next couple of weeks by the Riders and Harvard Media. That’s when we’ll officially know who the next ‘Voice of the Riders’ is. We at Piffles Podcast have known for months who that will be, but out of respect, we won’t make it our news or announcement, we’ll let the team and their broadcast partner do it. Though, once that news hits, it’ll “Take off, eh?”

In terms of former Saskatchewan Roughriders making news this past week, former Defensive Coordinator Jason Shivers was announced as the new DC in Edmonton under Chris Jones. An interesting coaching move in Edmonton saw former Riders O-Lineman Takoby Cofield brought in as an Assistant O-Line Coach. I liked Cofield here, he could just never stay healthy. Good to see him back in the league starting his coaching career.

And TSN’s Dave Naylor posted that the rules committee will push off a vote until possibly this upcoming week on rule changes. The one making the most news is the potential changes to kickoffs. Will the league vote to go to XFL style kickoffs, leave them the way they are or give teams the option to take the ball at their own 40 or 45 yard line after giving up a touchdown? It’s all in the name of player safety, but I don’t want kickoffs removed. It’s part of what makes the CFL great!
They will also vote on the onside dribble punt that Montreal made good use of last year, but if anything, that one will just be tweaked a little bit, not removed completely.
