Riderville Rumblings: Ring the Bell, Riders Aren’t Josh-ing Around

Piffles Podcast has heard quite a few rumblings lately that the Saskatchewan Roughriders are close to hiring Toronto Argonauts Defensive Backs Coach Josh Bell to join Corey Mace’s staff here in Saskatchewan. Former coach, GM and executive, now TSN Panel member Jim Barker said as much recently in an interview and we’ve been hearing it from others in the know as well.

Bell would likely be making a lateral move as DB coach, but to pry him away, the Riders will likely have to make him assistant head coach or give some other type of promotion to work their way around it.

Josh Bell and Corey Mace have an extensive history together, both winning a Grey Cup with the Calgary Stampeders as players in 2014 and again in 2018 as coaches with the Stampeders. Bell joined Mace’s defensive staff in Toronto and there they won another Grey Cup in 2022 right here in Saskatchewan at Mosaic Stadium.

The idea of Josh Bell coming to the Riders was thrown out as soon as Corey Mace was announced as the new head coach, so it shouldn’t be that much of a shock. Last week, Mace reunited himself with Marc Mueller (Riders Offensive Coordinator) and now it sounds like he could be reuniting himself with another former teammate and coach.

Join Greg, Steve and I this upcoming week on the last episode of The Piffles Podcast for 2023 where we will talk about this potential hire, some of the re-signings from the past week and have our annual Festivus show!
