Safimod’s Power Rankings – Preseason Week 2
- 1. Toronto
- 2. Edmonton
- 3. Winnipeg
- 4. Ottawa
- 5. BC
- 6. Sask
- 7. Calgary
- 8. Hamilton
- 9. Montreal Alouettes
Everyone finally has at least one pre-season game in the books, and we definitely learned a few things this past week.
First things first – the Montreal Alouettes looked as bad as we expected them to be, falling 27-7 to an Ottawa team who’s starting QB saw 5 snaps before going down to a knee injury. Speaking of Trevor Harris, I’m pretty sure most fans across the CFL were happy to hear that his injury appears to be nothing serious, and he will be ready for the season opener.
Second – Toronto looks every bit as impressive as the team that toppled the Stampeders in last year’s Grey Cup, forcing 10 turnovers versus a Hamilton team that couldn’t get anything going. I was going to mention Johnny Manziel’s performance in my power rankings, but I’m pretty sure anyone who watched Friday’s game is most likely sick of hearing about him.
Edmonton had a similar outing to the Riders the week before, falling 33-13 to the Blue Bombers in a game that saw the Esks leave almost all of their starters at home. 2 things stood out to me from that game. 1) Johnny Augustin looked every bit as good as his combine results, rushing 8 times for 80 yards and a touchdown. 2) Chris Streveler had a solid performance in his attempt to become Matt Nichols back-up. The first year pro went 10 for 10 for 140 yards and a touchdown, while rushing 4 times for 37 yards. Heck of a professional debut, kid.
We are 10 days away from the start of the regular season, when preseason power rankings will get thrown out the window.
