Here we sit, another week of CFL in the books, and the top 3 remain the same. I don’t think many will argue that the Stampeders, Blue Bombers and Roughriders make up the top 3 teams in the CFL right now.

Beyond that, it gets interesting. I’ve been a bit lax on raising Hamilton up the rankings, but a big win over the 2nd ranked Winnipeg Blue Bombers, combined with their play over the last few weeks, has them take a big jump up to 5th in the power rankings. They have looked like a completely different team since June Jones took over. It may be too little too late for this season, but there is still home in Hamilton for a spot in the playoffs.

Edmonton finally rebounded after their 6-game losing streak that saw them go from probable home playoff game to fighting for a playoff spot after a 7-0 start. Lining up against the Montreal Alouettes is exactly what they needed to get out of their snide. Will it be a 1 week wonder, or are the Edmonton Eskimos back? I’ll offer some advice to the Argos this week – cover Brandon Zylstra – he’s good.

Speaking of slide’s, BC’s continued. A 30-25 loss to the Ottawa REDBLACKS certainly put the 2017 playoffs in jeopardy for the BC Lions. Their season will be on the line when they battle Winnipeg Saturday afternoon. If Saskatchewan and Edmonton win their games over Ottawa and Toronto, a BC loss would eliminate them from playoff contention. That scenario is not only possible, it is likely.

Winnipeg almost dropped out of 2nd overall, but with Nichols back at practice on Tuesday, all is still OK in Bomberland. A battle against the BC Lions will tell us more about the Bombers heading in to the playoffs.

Montreal was officially eliminated from playoff contention on Monday afternoon, and it honestly couldn’t come soon enough. Though I hate to see a team go through a season like they have, it will be good to get the hopes out of the way, so they can begin truly preparing for the 2018 season. Wonder what today’s trade deadline will bring.

Check back later today with the release of the next episode of Piffles Podcast with @RealAlexD, @RealAmyD and myself (@Safimod). Tomorrow, @GregOnSports is back with his Pick 6 NFL picks. Is a bounce back week in the cards after a 1-5 week?
