I’m not sure we could have scripted a more exciting pair of football games for Friday night football this week. A 17 yard field goal with zeros on the clock put the Stampeders over the much improved (over their 0-8 start) Hamilton Tiger-Cats. This game looked nothing like the 60-1 beat down that Hamilton suffered earlier this season. While it was too little too late, the Tiger-Cats look much more like the team many expected earlier this season.

In a game that was dominated by the Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Ottawa REDBLACKS walked out of Mosaic Stadium with a 33-32 victory. Setup by a controversial pass interference call with 4 seconds to go, Ryan Lindley rushed for the game winning touchdown from the one. The Riders seemed to move the ball at will in between the 20s, but once they hit the red zone, they couldn’t make anything happen. Turn any of those 6 field goals in to touchdowns, and this game was over long before the 3 minute warning. Instad, they allowed Ottawa to stay in the game, and pull off the late victory.

Speaking of too little too late, the BC Lions attempted some late game heroics of their own on Saturday, but fell just a little short in what was certainly a must win game for them. Their schedule doesn’t get any easier with Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Toronto still to come. They need to win out, and see Saskatchewan go 0-3 against Calgary, Montreal and Edmonton, or their streak of consecutive playoff appearances ends at 20.
