Sharing YOUR Rider Pride – Week 1 – Ryan Knutson

As we all know, Rider Pride is world wide and our goal at the Piffles Podast in 2018 is to share more of YOUR Rider Pride with the world! That’s why we are running a fan contest. We want to know more about YOU, the great Saskatchewan Roughrider fans.
This week, our spotlight is on Ryan Knutson of Regina, SK.
How long have you been a Rider fan?
I would say close to thirty-some years.
What got you into cheering for the Green and White when you first starting becoming a fan?
You’re from Saskatchewan, you go to a game as a kid and you just become a fan as soon as you get to your first game.
What’s your first Rider memory that comes to mind and stands out?
One of my firsts is just going to my first game, sitting up in the East side, the sunny side of Taylor Field. I go to the game and they are selling Bobby Jurasin bandanas back in the days and I ended up getting one and ever since then, I’ve been hooked in.
How often do you get to games nowadays?
I try to get to a couple a year at least, if not, I catch them on TV or on the Radio, depending on where I am.
What’s your favourite part of going out to a Rider game?
For me, I just like the game. I don’t get into the whole big rah rah thing, I’m more into watching the game, watching the plays develop. That’s what I enjoy.
Do you have any personal game day rituals?
Nope, none for myself. I’m not superstitious at all.
Who is your current favourite player for the Riders?
I would have to say, I like the hoggies. So right now, probably Brendon Labatte or Dan Clark would be my favourite guys right now.
Who is your favourite all time Rider?
All time, because of the bandana, it’s gotta be Bobby Jurasin.
What’s your favourite Rider possession?
When they first started doing the locker room sale, I picked up a game worn helmet. I don’t know who it belonged to, it’s pretty beat up, but that would be my most prized Rider possession.
Besides the Grey Cup wins, what is your favourite Rider moment?
Going to the last game at the old stadium, Taylor Field. And other than that, I was at the blackout game in 2007. That was something that you always remember. I was there the whole time and I don’t know what it was, the fans, it was just crazy.
Finally, what does ‘Rider Pride’ mean to you?
Rider Pride is… it’s a province. And now we are growing outside of our borders and we see more and more people. That’s the big thing, it’s just the support they get from the community and they don’t have that one single owner. It’s a community team.
