Sharing YOUR Rider Pride – Week 2 – Adam Stuart

Published: Wednesday, Jun 20th 2018, 12:06am

As we all know, Rider Pride is world wide and our goal at the Piffles Podast in 2018 is to share more of YOUR Rider Pride with the world! That’s why we are running a fan contest. We want to know more about YOU, the great Saskatchewan Roughrider fans.

This week, our spotlight is on Adam Stuart of Theodore, SK.

How long have you been a Rider fan?

Since I was born I guess… I still got the 1989 GC baby hoodie.

What got you into cheering for the Green and White when you first starting becoming a fan?

I always cheered for them since they were the local team, they are the heartbeat of the province.

What’s your first Rider memory that comes to mind and stands out?

Hmm… I think it was the 1997 playoffs. I remember watching the Riders beat the Stamps in the West Semi Final, then I remember the disappointment of losing that Grey Cup. But again, you had Doug Flutie on the other side of the field, so your chances were slim.

How often do you get to games nowadays? Do you have season tickets?

I don’t (yay farming…) but I do get a flex pack and end up going quite a bit. Also, we organize a van once a year and a trip with 10-13 of us from Yorkton to the game. Otherwise, me and a buddy end up going.

What’s your favourite part of going out to a Rider game?

The crowd, the noise (in 2010 and 2013 I remember that place a rocking) and the general GAMEDAY experience. It is really something else.

Do you have any personal game day rituals?

Since the last game in the 2007 regular season, if I’m not going to the game, I have to have honey garlic wings.

Who is your current favourite player for the Riders?

Current… hmm… I’d say Dan Clark, a guy that maybe isn’t the most talented, but makes up for it in determination and effort. I really don’t think that there are many that would go from Jr (Thunder) and simply out work others to get to a starting job on the Riders.

Who is your favourite all time Rider?

As much as I’d like to say Weston Dressler, I’ll have to say Darian Durant. He was the guy that had to carry the fan criticism, the media, and at times that whole 2013 team (see West Semi Final) to get that Grey Cup. I always thought he was that guy that really took a beating from fans, yet still most games came and balled out.

What’s your favourite Rider possession?

Got a CFL game ball signed by a lot of former and current CFLers, namely Riders (a young rookie Dan Clark, Scott Schultz, Gene Makowsky, Luc Mullinder, Darian Durant, Weston Dressler, George Reed, and for some reason, Troy Westwood)

Besides the Grey Cup wins, what is your favourite Rider moment?

I’ll say it’s a toss up between 2010 home opener vs MTL, and the 2010 West semi finals. In 2010, that game was insane, and when Glenn Johnson called too many men on SK AGAIN (like you know when) you could hear a gasp and chilling silence. In the West semi final, I remember being two rows right behind Wally and the Lions, and I had a vuvuzela (soccer horn). Well, I used to play tuba, so I got the lungs to blast this sucker. It got so loud, that I remember Wally turning around a few times and looking for the air horn. Was aboslutely hilarious. Plus the game was insane!

Finally, what does ‘Rider Pride’ mean to you?

No matter if the riders are winning, losing, out of the playoffs or hoisting the cup, you always cheer hard, be respectful, and show the country and the world how great this team and province is.
