After Thursday night’s big 24-19 Riders win over Hamilton, I’m singing some Monkees (not Smash Mouth), because I’m a believer! Cody Fajardo IS the man here in Riderville and the Riders need to lock this guy up long term NOW!
There were questions about what Fajardo can do against the elite teams and he answered the call Thursday, throwing for over 300 yards, rushing for over 50 and of course, guiding the team to victory with his game winning TD with just 24 seconds remaining in the game. This wasn’t against the Toronto Argonauts (HAHAHAHHA WINNIPEG!!) or the BC Lions… this was against the best team in the East and a legit contender for the Grey Cup.
I’m all in on Fajardo now. With 6 of the 9 starting QBs going down to injury at some point already this season, Fajardo has shown his value and is a legitimate starting QB in this league. The CFL (and pro football in general) has had their share of issues with high level starting QBs lately, so it’s imperative that the Riders cough up the dough to Fajardo. He’s won 4 of his last 5 games and he has an entire fanbase on board.
Fajardo is a free agent after this season and he would be smart to not sign anywhere until FA opens and he can maximize his value, but the Riders need to do EVERYTHING they can to keep him. Don’t give him Mike Reilly money, but keep him happy! This is the guy we’ve been waiting for since Darian Durant got hurt at the Banjo Bowl in 2014.
Make it happen O’Day!
